New Orleans Man Jailed for Violating Federal Gun Control Act

New Orleans, Louisiana – In a bid to curb gun violence, a 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for violating the Federal Gun Control Act, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.

According to court documents, Bryce Jones was arrested in October 2021, along with several co-defendants who were convicted felons in possession of firearms, near the intersection of Bienville and Crozat streets in New Orleans. Jones was in possession of a Rossi revolver, which he had in his waistband. Record checks revealed that just a few months earlier, Jones had been convicted of several felony offenses in Livingston Parish.

Jones was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. This case is one of the many that have been launched under the program.

On January 11, 2023, U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk handed down the sentence. In addition to the 42 months in federal prison, Jones will also serve an additional three-year term of supervised release after release from imprisonment. He has been ordered to pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney David Haller is handling the prosecution.
