BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a chilling turn of events, Christopher Gorman, 51, from Buffalo, has been handed down a 41-month prison sentence for his role in a fiery conspiracy to torch the Western New York Property Contractors building.
Gorman stood convicted of conspiracy to damage a building used in an activity affecting interstate commerce by fire and explosive means. The charges stem from an incident on June 12, 2014, where Gorman, alongside Lowell Carey and Ryan Smolinski, plotted the destruction of the Ontario Street property.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, the trio concocted Molotov cocktails using beer bottles, gasoline, and a t-shirt wick. In the early hours of June 13, they executed their plan, setting fire to the building, causing approximately $2,207.89 in damages.
Gorman’s sentence is the result of an exhaustive investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Buffalo Fire Department. Special Agent in Charge Ashan Benedict and Commissioner Garnell W. Whitfield, Jr., were pivotal in leading the investigation.
While Carey and Smolinski have already faced conviction and sentencing for their involvement, Gorman’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such heinous acts. The justice system has once again demonstrated its commitment to holding criminals accountable for their actions.
