A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to being a felon-in-possession of a gun, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Casidus Carr, 31, of Buffalo, NY, entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara on [date not specified]. The charge stems from a search warrant executed on January 16, 2015, at Carr’s residence on Dunlop Avenue in Buffalo, where law enforcement officers discovered a loaded firearm and ammunition.
Carr’s possession of a firearm is a violation of his previous conviction in 2005 on a New York State charge of Manslaughter 1st, which prevents him from legally possessing a firearm.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Adler is handling the case, which is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Street Task Force and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Adler, the discovery of the firearm and ammunition during the search warrant execution led to Carr’s indictment and subsequent guilty plea.
The plea is scheduled to be sentenced on March 8, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. before Judge Arcara.
