Casidus Carr, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, New York 2015

BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a stark reminder of the city’s violent crime landscape, Casidus Carr, 31, was handed a 30-month prison sentence today by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara for being a felon in possession of a gun.

Carr’s conviction stems from a January 16, 2015, incident where law enforcement officers, executing a search warrant at his residence on Dunlop Avenue in Buffalo, discovered a loaded firearm and ammunition. The discovery was a stark contradiction to Carr’s legal status, as he had been convicted of Manslaughter in the First Degree back in 2005, making him prohibited from possessing firearms.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Adler led the prosecution, ensuring justice was served for this flagrant disregard for gun control laws. The investigation leading to Carr’s conviction was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Street Task Force, under Special Agent in Charge Adam S. Cohen, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, directed by Sheriff Timothy Howard.

Carr’s sentence is the latest chapter in Buffalo’s ongoing battle against gun violence. The city has seen an alarming rise in firearm-related crimes, and this sentencing sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
