Buffalo Grandmother Sentenced for Crack Cocaine Ring
A Buffalo grandmother who headed a family-based crack cocaine trafficking organization was sentenced to 188 months in prison, according to authorities.
Theresa Anderson, 57, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine for her role in controlling drug sales on Swinburne and Deshler Streets in the City of Buffalo between 2000 and February 2012.
Anderson employed several family members to sell crack cocaine on a daily basis in the neighborhood and used intimidation and threats to monopolize narcotics sales in the area. She also purchased several homes in the area, which were used for selling and storing the illegal narcotics.
“This defendant not only destroyed her own family by leading them into a life of illegal narcotics trafficking, she also damaged the neighborhood where the drug trafficking took place,” said U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. “Together with our law enforcement partners, we will continue our efforts to make Buffalo and its neighborhoods a safer place to live.”
As part of the case, the government seized over $50,000 in U.S. Currency and approximately nine houses used by the drug organization. Anderson was arrested in February 2012 along with eight others, including five of her own children or grandchildren, her husband, and the boyfriends of her daughters.
All nine defendants have been convicted, with the sentencing of Anderson marking the culmination of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Buffalo Police Department, and the New York State Police. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara.
The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of narcotics trafficking on families and communities. Authorities will continue to work together to disrupt and dismantle organizations like Anderson’s, bringing those responsible to justice and making neighborhoods safer for residents.
