BUFFALO, N.Y. – Alexy Diaz, a 31-year-old Buffalo resident, faced the harshest justice today as he was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by an armed career criminal.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., made the announcement, revealing that Judge Richard J. Arcara imposed the sentence on Diaz.
The defendant, who had already been convicted of three violent felony or serious drug offenses in state court, was caught with a firearm at 1160 Kensington Avenue in Buffalo on November 22, 2011. The presence of the firearm marked him as an armed career criminal under federal law.
Assistant U.S. Attorney George C. Burgasser led the prosecution in this case. He emphasized that the sentencing followed an extensive investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force.
This sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of firearms violations when committed by individuals with a violent criminal history. It underscores the commitment of federal law enforcement to ensuring public safety and combating gun-related crime in our communities.
