GRIMY NEWS ALERT: David Kuntz, 28-year-old Tacoma drug dealer, was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of supervised release for gun and drug crimes. This follows his illegal possession of a handgun during drug deals.
Kuntz, who has a history of five felony drug convictions in Pierce County Superior Court, pleaded guilty in October 2012 to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Oxycodone, and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Offense.
His first brush with law enforcement came in June 2011 at the McDonald’s parking lot on South Tacoma Way and Highway 512. Kuntz was arrested with a Ruger semi-automatic pistol and $7,800 in cash during a drug deal gone wrong.
In November 2011, KUNTZ was stopped again by Lakewood Police while sitting on a 9mm Smith and Wesson firearm with over 100 oxycodone pills and more than $2,100 in cash. The case was investigated by the South Sound Gang Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory A. Gruber.
At sentencing, U.S. District Judge Ronald B. Leighton declared Kuntz’s actions ‘corrosive in the community,’ emphasizing his responsibility for the impact of his criminal behavior on society.
The U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan announced the sentence, highlighting the continued threat posed by repeat offenders like Kuntz to public safety.
