Buffalo Man Convicted of Cocaine Trafficking
Harold Howard, a 42-year-old Buffalo resident, has been convicted of multiple charges related to drug trafficking and firearms possession. A jury trial found Howard guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and several firearms-related charges.
According to the investigation, Howard transported cocaine between Atlanta, Georgia and Buffalo between 2008 and November 2011. In November 2008, Howard was stopped in Atlanta with $104,000 and a loaded firearm. He was also arrested in November 2009 in Buffalo after being stopped with cocaine and a loaded firearm.
The conviction is the result of a long-term investigation by the Erie County Sheriff’s department, under the direction of Sheriff Timothy B. Howard, and several other law enforcement agencies.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. praised the cooperation between local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, saying that the prosecution brings an end to the flow of illegal narcotics and firearms into the community.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Melissa M. Marangola and George C. Burgasser handled the prosecution of the case and stated that the defendant was arrested following a long-term investigation.
Howard faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 35 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 30, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.
