Buffalo Man Guilty of Stealing Mail

A shocking case of corruption has surfaced in Buffalo, New York, as Michael Lamacchia, a 48-year-old mail carrier, pleaded guilty to theft of mail. Lamacchia, who worked for the U.S. Postal Service, admitted to taking a letter containing New York State Safety Inspection Certificate stickers and using them on vehicles owned by him or members of his family.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross, Lamacchia used the stickers to avoid having the vehicles inspected or repaired to pass inspection. This brazen act of theft has raised questions about the integrity of the U.S. Postal Service and the accountability of its employees.

The investigation into Lamacchia’s actions was led by Special Agents of The United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General, under the direction of Monica Weyler. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by William J. Hochul Jr., has been working tirelessly to bring Lamacchia to justice.

Lamacchia’s plea is a significant blow to his defense, and he now faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for October 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.

As the investigation unfolds, it is clear that Lamacchia’s actions were not only a breach of trust but also a serious threat to public safety. The U.S. Postal Service must take immediate action to ensure that its employees are held to the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

The people of Buffalo demand justice for this egregious crime, and it is up to the courts to deliver it. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has shown its commitment to fighting corruption and upholding the law, and we will continue to follow this case closely.
