Buffalo Man Lied to Grand Jury
A Buffalo man has admitted to lying to a grand jury in connection with the Bailey Boys investigation.
Michael Acoff, 24, of Buffalo, New York, pleaded guilty to perjury for deceiving the grand jury about his involvement in the January 19, 2011 murder of Harold McCain.
Acoff told the grand jury that he received a call from McCain’s alleged killer and even picked him up, but prosecutors say he fabricated the entire story.
The charge against Acoff carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The Bailey Boys Gang investigation has led to the indictment of several members and associates, including Tyrone Brown, who was charged with McCain’s murder.
The case is a result of a joint investigation by the United States Attorney’s Office, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, the Buffalo Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Amherst Police Department.
Acoff is scheduled to be sentenced on December 22, 2014, before Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.
