Buffalo Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery
A 23-year-old Buffalo man, Aaron Benn, has been sentenced to 43 months in prison for his role in a bank robbery.
On June 13, 2013, Benn’s co-defendant, Jeffrey Turner, entered M&T Bank located at 788 Tonawanda Street in Buffalo, passing a demand note to the teller threatening the use of a weapon. The teller handed over a specific amount of money.
Just over a week later, on July 1, 2013, Turner entered a second M&T Bank, located at 1580 Hertel Avenue in Buffalo. Again, he passed a demand note to the teller, this time threatening the use of a weapon. The teller gave him the money, and Turner exited the bank with the cash, getting into a car driven by Benn.
The evidence showed that Benn was aware of Turner’s intention to rob the bank and was waiting to pick him up afterwards.
Aaron Benn was sentenced to 43 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. He was also ordered to pay $1,429 in restitution.
Benn’s co-defendant, Jeffrey Turner, was also convicted of bank robbery and received a 33-month prison sentence.
The case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Catherine Baumgarten handled the case.
