Buffalo Man Pleads Guilty to ID Sales

BUFFALO, N.Y.– Jorge Garcia, 37, of Buffalo, N.Y., has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to possession with intent to use or transfer unlawfully five or more identification documents. This heinous crime carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.

According to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., Garcia sold nine sets of identification documents in exchange for $6,300 in cash. These documents consisted of Puerto Rican birth certificates, New York state birth certificates, Michigan state birth certificates, and U.S. Social Security Cards. Garcia was led to believe that these nine sets of authentic identification documents would be used to allow illegal immigrants to remain and work in the United States unlawfully.

The plea is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-In-Charge James C. Spero. This case highlights the importance of cracking down on individuals who seek to exploit the system and profit from the desperation of others.

The defendant’s actions have serious consequences not only for the individuals who purchased the fake IDs but also for the entire community. By selling these identification documents, Garcia put the lives of innocent people at risk and undermined the trust in our institutions.

Judge Richard J. Arcara will preside over Garcia’s sentencing, which is scheduled for September 19 at 1:00 p.m. As we await the verdict, it is clear that Garcia’s actions will have far-reaching consequences and serve as a warning to those who would seek to engage in similar activities.

The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we urge our readers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell T. Ippolito, Jr. is handling the case, and we commend his efforts in bringing Garcia to justice. The people of Buffalo deserve to feel safe and secure, and it is our duty to shine a light on those who seek to undermine that sense of security.
