BUFFALO, N.Y. – Jonathan Singletary, a/k/a Freeze, 38, of Buffalo, NY, pleaded guilty before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr., to obstructing an official proceeding. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced that Singletary lied under oath during the trial of Rodshaun Black and Ernest Green, providing false statements about his knowledge of the murder of Jabril Harper and the robbery of Morris Singer. Singletary initially cooperated with authorities in 2010 but later recanted his story when called to testify.
In January 2010, Singletary informed his parole officer that he had information regarding Harper’s murder and Singer’s robbery. He made a signed statement to the Buffalo Police Department on January 11, 2010, detailing the murders, which were later repeated in front of a federal grand jury on December 6, 2011.
Despite expressing reluctance, Singletary agreed to testify before the trial on November 29, 2017. However, he denied his involvement and knowledge of the crimes during cross-examination. His plea is the result of an investigation by the Buffalo Police Department, FBI, and New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Sentencing for Singletary is scheduled for November 12, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Geraci.
