Haverhill Man Sentenced for Firearm and Drug Crimes
A Haverhill man was sentenced to 70 months in prison for illegal firearm and drug possession. Kevin Gomez, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper to 70 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
Gomez pleaded guilty on February 25, 2020, to distribution of heroin and being a felon in possession of a firearm. During an undercover investigation between August 2019 and October 2019, agents seized from Gomez approximately 80 grams of heroin mixed with fentanyl, a Tec-9 pistol, an AR-15 rifle, and two other pistols.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s North Shore Gang Task Force and the Massachusetts State Police. United States Attorney Andrew Lelling and Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, made the announcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip Cheng of Lelling’s Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit prosecuted the case. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
The reinvigorated PSN program in 2017 as part of the renewed focus on targeting violent criminals, directing all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and the local community to develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce violent crime.
Gomez is currently serving his sentence. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal firearm and drug possession in the state of Massachusetts.
