Giovanni Annucci-Romero, Armed Robbery, Georgia 2024

Giovanni Annucci-Romero, a 24-year-old resident of Gainesville, Georgia, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a string of armed robberies in the cities of Gainesville and Cleveland, Georgia.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Kurt R. Erskine, Annucci-Romero wielded two firearms, one in each hand, during robberies of a grocery store in Gainesville and two gas stations, one in Gainesville and one in Cleveland. The suspect was arrested on May 23, 2020, shortly after he robbed a gas station in Cleveland.

Following the robbery, Cleveland police officers released a description of the robbery suspect’s vehicle, which moments later was stopped by a deputy with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. Annucci-Romero was arrested in the vehicle after the deputy saw him sitting on the cash he had just stolen from the Cleveland gas station.

Annucci-Romero was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by four years of supervised release, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $31,943. The suspect was convicted on May 19, 2021, after he pleaded guilty.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Cleveland Police Department, the Gainesville Police Department, and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Keen prosecuted the case.

Law enforcement officials praised the successful prosecution of the case, citing the excellent coordination of federal and local law enforcement officers. ‘These partnerships are helping to ensure the safety of the citizens of our district at a time when violent crime is spiking,’ said Acting U.S. Attorney Erskine.

The successful outcome of the case is a testament to the importance of multi-jurisdictional teamwork and communication, said Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell. ‘This outcome is a direct reflection of what good multi-jurisdictional teamwork and communication can accomplish,’ he said.
