Burglar Sentenced in Gregory

A 46-year-old man from Gregory, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 37 months of custody for his role in a second-degree burglary.

Roger King, 46, was convicted of entering a house uninvited and distracting the owner, then stealing a series of blank checks that he later cashed at local businesses.

The crime took place on June 9, 2012. King was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 12, 2013, and he pled guilty on February 10, 2014.

King’s sentence also includes 36 months of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentencing, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on April 15, 2014.

The conviction was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuting the case.

King was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
