Burglary Ring Takedown in Canton
Two Canton men, Nicholas Moore, 23, and Arsenio Smith, 25, have been accused of participating in a string of burglaries and thefts across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, according to U.S. Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach for the Northern District of Ohio.
Moore and Smith are facing eight counts, including conspiracy, transportation of stolen goods, and sale or receipt of stolen goods across state lines. If convicted, their sentence will be determined by the Court, taking into account prior criminal records, roles in the offenses, and unique characteristics of the violations.
The statutory maximum sentence will not be exceeded, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Dirksen, following an investigation by the Uniontown Police, Lake Township, and Federal Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with multiple local police departments.
The indictment, which is only a charge and not evidence of guilt, outlines the alleged crimes, including the theft of coins, jewelry, and silver bars from businesses. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial, where the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Moore and Smith are accused of selling the stolen goods across state lines, further complicating the case. The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Salem Police Department, Stark County Sheriff’s Office, and Lexington Police Department.
The takedown of this burglary ring is a significant blow to the organized crime syndicates operating in the region. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
As the investigation unfolds, it’s clear that Moore and Smith were involved in a sophisticated operation, targeting high-value items and selling them in multiple states. The extent of their network and the full scope of their crimes remain to be seen.
