Burnett Sentenced to 150 Months for Meth, Heroin Possession
PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – Darnell Devaughn Burnett, 40, of Pensacola, has been handed a 150-month federal prison sentence after admitting to possession with intent to distribute significant quantities of methamphetamine and heroin. United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, Jason R. Coody, announced the severe penalty.
“Our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners are relentless in their efforts to safeguard our communities from addictive substances,” Coody stated. “Burnett’s sentence reflects the severity of his actions and demonstrates our commitment to holding drug traffickers accountable.”
The bust occurred on June 13, 2023, when authorities executed a state search warrant at Burnett’s residence. They seized 829 grams of meth, 137.9 grams of heroin, small amounts of fentanyl and cocaine, as well as drug distribution paraphernalia. The evidence showed that Burnett was already on probation for drug-related charges at the time.
Pensacola Police Chief Eric Randall praised the collaboration between agencies. “This case underscores our dedication to eradicating drug trafficking from Pensacola,” he said. “Every resource is employed to ensure those who endanger our community face justice.”
DEA Miami Field Division Special Agent in Charge Deanne Reuter emphasized the importance of public safety. “We will continue to pursue those who prioritize profit over human lives,” she declared. Burnett’s sentence includes a subsequent 5 years of supervised release.
The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by the Pensacola Police Department, DEA Miami Field Division, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney J. Ryan Love prosecuted the case. This operation is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF).
