Hilda Parker, 57, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to wire fraud in federal court today.

Parker, who owned and operated Parker Products, a broker of goods for the Defense Logistics Agency (“DLA”), was accused of failing to deliver goods ordered on 29 purchase orders between April 2007 and December 2007.

The value of the undelivered goods totaled $128,983.45. Parker, however, falsely verified the delivery of the goods via wire shipment and received payments in connection with those purchase orders.

The Defense Logistics Agency used a streamlined fast-pay purchase system, which allowed for payment on verification rather than actual receipt of the goods ordered. This resulted in the degradation of operational readiness for a number of military units, as some of the items ordered through Parker Products were mission critical.

“This case highlights the importance of accountability in government contracting,” said United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker. “We will continue to work tirelessly to root out fraud and corruption in our system.”

Parker faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and restitution.

The investigation was conducted by the Defense Criminal Investigation Service, and Assistant United States Attorney Banumathi Rangarajan is handling the prosecution of the case.
