Drew Caswell, Child Pornography, New York 2024

A 26-year-old Cairo, New York man is behind bars after pleading guilty to a string of child pornography charges.

Drew Caswell, 26, of Cairo, New York, admitted to downloading and distributing multiple image and video files of child pornography through a file-hosting service and social media platform.

According to the Department of Justice, Caswell used the file-hosting service Mega to download child pornography and then distributed the files on Twitter, now known as X. He also admitted to possessing nearly 300 images and videos of toddlers and infants being sexually abused on his cell phone.

The FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes members of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child exploitation online.

Caswell will be sentenced on September 24, 2024, by United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci, and faces a minimum of 5 years and up to 20 years in prison, a post-imprisonment term of supervised release of between 5 years and life, a fine of up to $250,000, and restitution to the victims.

Caswell will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child pornography and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
