Carl Granada Wilson Jr, Mail Fraud Conspiracy, California 2024

A 36-year-old California man has pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to commit mail fraud using two American companies’ UPS accounts, resulting in losses of over $900,000.

Carl Granada Wilson Jr., of Hollywood, California, entered his guilty plea in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday. Wilson faces a maximum of five years in prison for his role in the scheme.

According to court documents, Wilson gained access to one company’s UPS account in 2020 and provided the login credentials to Raekwon Malik Harrod, of Washington, D.C. Harrod and another individual used the account to create UPS shipping labels, reducing their shipping costs to zero. Wilson admitted that he intended for Harrod to use the account to ship shoes.

However, Harrod and the other individual soon started selling UPS shipping labels to third parties, resulting in losses of over $900,000 for the company. Wilson was unaware of this operation but later demanded $120,000 from Harrod and the individual, claiming it was to compensate the person who provided him with the login credentials.

Harrod and the individual handed over nearly $70,000 in cash and flew to Los Angeles, where they withdrew another $50,000 and provided it to Wilson. Wilson then secured access to a second American company’s UPS account and provided it to Harrod and the individual, who resumed selling UPS shipping labels online.

U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and FBI Special Agent in Charge David J. Scott announced the guilty plea, which was accepted by U.S. District Court Judge Ana C. Reyes. Wilson’s sentencing is scheduled for October 31, 2024. He will also be liable for a forfeiture money judgment for proceeds he received as a result of the scheme.
