California Bankruptcy Chief Gets New Job
WASHINGTON – A top bankruptcy official in California has been appointed to a new position, the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees announced yesterday. Tracy Hope Davis, who was previously the U.S. Trustee for New York, Connecticut and Vermont, has been appointed to oversee bankruptcy cases in Northern and Eastern California and Nevada.
In a statement, Clifford J. White III, Director of the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees, praised Davis’s expertise and leadership skills, saying she ‘has done an outstanding job as U.S. Trustee in New York, Connecticut and Vermont’ and ‘is nationally recognized for her superb oversight of complex chapter 11 cases in the Southern District of New York.’
Davis, a former trial attorney, has a long history of experience in bankruptcy law and has worked for the U.S. Trustee Program since 1997. She joined the program as a trial attorney before being named as the Assistant U.S. Trustee in the Southern District of New York and has also served as the Acting Assistant U.S. Trustee in the Eastern District of New York (Brooklyn) and the Acting U.S. Trustee for Region 2.
Her appointment is effective November 27, 2013, and she replaces August B. Landis, who has been appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada. The U.S. Trustee Program, which is responsible for overseeing case administration and litigating to enforce the bankruptcy laws, has 21 regions and 95 field offices. Region 17, which Davis will oversee, is headquartered in San Francisco, with additional offices in Fresno, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose, Calif., and Las Vegas and Reno, Nev.
Davis received a law degree from Rutgers Law School in Newark, N.J., and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. She has served in various capacities as a Wells College alumna, including as a member of the Wells College Board of Trustees and as a vice president on the Alumnae Board of Wells College.
With this appointment, Davis will continue to play a key role in enforcing the bankruptcy laws and ensuring the integrity of the bankruptcy system. The U.S. Trustee Program, which is part of the Justice Department, works to prevent and detect fraud and other crimes in bankruptcy cases.
