SHAKESPEARE COUNTY – Daniel Dillon, a 50-year-old resident of Los Angeles, California, has been slammed with federal charges after he allegedly threatened four individuals in Stark County, Ohio. United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, announced that a federal grand jury sitting in Cleveland returned a four-count indictment against Dillon.
The indictment alleges that Dillon, using various means including fax, email, and voicemail, sent intimidating communications from California to Ohio. The chilling messages contained explicit threats aimed at injuring or killing a Stark County judge, a public official, a court-appointed guardian, and the guardian’s attorney.
Dettelbach stated that the charges stem from an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Canton, Ohio, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy Kelley handling the prosecution.
Should Dillon be found guilty, his sentence will be determined by the Court following a review of all unique case factors, including any prior criminal record and his role in the offenses. However, it is crucial to note that an indictment alone is not evidence of guilt, and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Dillon now faces serious charges for his actions, which have struck fear into the community of Stark County. The case serves as a stark reminder of the reach of cybercrime across state lines and the commitment of federal law enforcement to protect citizens from such threats.
