Calvin R. Patrick, Receipt of Child Pornography, New York 2017

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a shocking turn of events, Calvin R. Patrick, a 35-year-old man from Mount Morris, New York, has pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography. The case, which has left the community reeling, is a stark reminder of the growing threat of child exploitation.

According to court documents, Patrick used the application ‘Kik’ to communicate with two minor females under the age of 18. The victims, a 14-year-old female from Florida and a female from Pennsylvania who was not quite 12 years-old, were reportedly enticed by Patrick to send him sexually explicit pictures of themselves.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, who is handling the case, stated that Patrick’s actions were a clear violation of the law and a danger to the community. ‘The defendant’s actions were not only a crime, but also a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the victims and their families,’ Lee said.

The plea is the culmination of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Adam S. Cohen; the Mount Morris Police Department, under the direction of Chief Kenneth Mignemi; the Livingston County Probation Department, under the direction of Director Lynne C. Mignemi; and the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office, under the direction of Gregory J. McCaffrey.

Patrick faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison, a maximum of 40 years, and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for July 12, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr.

As the community struggles to come to terms with this disturbing case, Grimy Times urges our readers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
