Nathan E. Boguhn, 50, of Vestal, New York, pleaded guilty yesterday to three counts of distributing and receiving child pornography via the internet and using a file sharing program. Boguhn admitted that in 2016 he downloaded child pornography from the internet and allowed others access to this material through a file sharing program he maintained.
According to court documents, Boguhn used a file sharing program to distribute and receive child pornography, which is a federal crime. The investigation into Boguhn’s activities was led by the Mid-State Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes the FBI and the New York State Police, with assistance provided by the Town of Vestal Police Department.
The case against Boguhn is part of a larger effort to combat the distribution of child pornography. As part of his guilty plea, Boguhn faces a minimum sentence of five years and up to twenty years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.
Boghuhn remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service pending sentencing. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 18, 2017, for his sentencing hearing.
The prosecution of Boguhn’s case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Miroslav Lovric. This case is also being investigated by the FBI and the New York State Police, with assistance provided by the Town of Vestal Police Department.
In a statement, United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian said, “The distribution of child pornography is a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for its victims. We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those who engage in this heinous activity.”
Project Safe Childhood, a program launched by the government in 2006, is a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the sexual exploitation of children. The program brings together federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
Boghuhn’s guilty plea is a significant victory for law enforcement and a testament to the importance of their work in protecting children from exploitation.
