Cape Girardeau Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking

A Sikeston man has been sentenced to serve 10 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl. Cameron L. Robinson, 31, of Sikeston, Missouri, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. on Thursday.

Court documents reflect that in March 2023, law enforcement officers responded to Robinson’s residence in Sikeston to arrest him on an outstanding warrant. While on the premises, officers discovered a large bag containing over a half-pound of fentanyl concealed in a barbecue grill on the back porch.

At a guilty plea hearing in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau earlier this year, Robinson pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and admitted that the fentanyl belonged to him and that he intended to distribute it.

After serving the 10-year sentence, Robinson will be placed on supervised release for three years. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Koester handled the prosecution for the Government.

The discovery of the fentanyl in a barbecue grill on the back porch serves as a grim reminder of the often-overlooked places where illicit substances can be hidden. Law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to combat the opioid epidemic sweeping the nation.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, said, “This sentencing highlights the commitment of our office to hold accountable those who traffic in fentanyl and other deadly opioids.” The case against Robinson serves as a warning to those involved in the trafficking of these substances.
