TULSA, Okla. – In a shocking turn of events, Cameron Lynn, 34, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for first-degree murder, a crime that sent shockwaves through the community in February 2024.
According to investigators, Lynn maliciously took the life of Alcides Monroig and assaulted another individual. The gruesome crime occurred on February 24, 2024, in a heavily wooded area near railroad tracks in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Lynn, a transient, had approached the victims’ encampment, claiming he was searching for his belongings. When confronted, he refused to leave and shot multiple times at the tents, leaving one victim dead and another injured.
The surviving victim and a caller, who had flagged down police, described the terrifying scene to officers. Witnesses also testified that Lynn fled the scene, telling them to leave the area and claiming self-defense.
Cameron Lynn, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, was found guilty of First Degree Murder in Indian Country, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Brandishing and Discharging a Firearm During a Crime of Violence, and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in Indian Country in October 2024.
U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell imposed the life sentence, plus an additional 120 months for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. The remaining counts of assault were sentenced concurrently to 120 months each.
Lynn will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. The case was investigated by the Tulsa Police Department and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kenneth Elmore and Stephen Flynn prosecuting.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program focuses on fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
