Kizzy Solomon, Aiding Dog Fighting Venture, Georgia 2024

ALBANY, Ga. – A federal jury has convicted a Camilla woman on charges related to a dog fighting ring in south Georgia.

Kizzy Solomon, 44, was found guilty on 15 counts of aiding and abetting the possession and training of dogs for purposes of an animal fighting venture. The conviction stems from a two-day trial that began on June 21 in Albany federal court.

The investigation into Solomon’s activities began in 2018, when federal agents executed a search warrant at her Camilla property, seizing 27 pit bull-type dogs and a large amount of dog fighting equipment. The dogs were found to have scarring and injuries consistent with use in dog fighting, and a large dog treadmill was seized that listed various dogs’ fighting histories.

Solomon faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count, and three years of supervised release. Eleven co-defendants have previously entered guilty pleas to various offenses related to their participation in the animal fighting venture.

“Dog fighting is an atrocious crime that often serves as a breeding ground for other illegal behavior,” said Peter D. Leary, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. “Our office will vigorously prosecute individuals found abusing and using animals for illegal fighting and gambling.”

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Office of Inspector General, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, and Decatur County Animal Control. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Crane and Department of Justice Trial Attorney Ethan Eddy are prosecuting the case.

Solomon is scheduled to be sentenced on a later date, along with several of her co-defendants, including Leslie Meyers, Alonza Jordan, Germany Brockington, Kevin Charles, Maurice Glover, Orlando Johnson, Shadon Johnson, Terry Driggers, Starlin Morgan, Kentre Gibson, and Timothy White. Each of these defendants faces a maximum sentence of one to five years in prison and fines of $100,000 to $250,000, or both.
