GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: The grim halls of justice have once again echoed with the chilling tale of Robert James Tyndall, a 45-year-old Canadian national, who stands accused of coerced enticement of a minor through online channels. United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen issued the charges, citing an alleged scheme spanning from August 13, 2012, to July 12, 2013.
In what has been termed as a despicable offense, Tyndall is accused of using the dark underbelly of the internet to persuade a child under the age of 18 into engaging in activities that would constitute criminal behavior. The severity of the charge does not bode well for the defendant, with the maximum possible sentence being life imprisonment.
The court document outlines that Tyndall faces substantial penalties should he be found guilty, including a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years, up to lifetime supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Additionally, he is subject to a special assessment of $100.
This sordid case has been the result of an intensive investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Henrico County Virginia Police Department, and the Calgary Police Service in Alberta, Canada. Assistant United States Attorney Jeffery W. Whitt is leading the prosecution.
The charges against Tyndall are a direct result of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the ever-growing issue of child sexual exploitation. The program, launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006, is aimed at locating, apprehending, and prosecuting those who exploit children via the internet, as well as identifying and rescuing victims.
