GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: The grim streets of Canton, Ohio, have once again been marred by a federal firearms charge. Larico Wesley, also known as Rico, has been hit with a one-count indictment for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The charge stems from an incident on August 25, 2013, when Canton Police were called to the scene of shots fired on the 700 block of Fourth Street, SW. Upon arrival, they found Wesley pacing near a black SUV in the parking lot, where they discovered a semi-automatic handgun on the vehicle’s bumper.
Wesley was nabbed by the FBI Stark County Safe Street Task Force and Canton Police on October 31, 2013, following an investigation conducted by the Canton Police Department.
Should he be convicted, Wesley’s sentence will be determined by the court, taking into account his prior criminal record, if any. The judge is bound by law to ensure that his sentence does not exceed the statutory maximum and often results in a punishment less severe.
The case against Rico is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Dirksen. It’s important to note that an indictment is merely a charge and does not constitute evidence of guilt; Rico is entitled to a fair trial, with the government bearing the burden of proving his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, confirmed the charges against Wesley, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to curbing gun violence in Canton and across the state.
