Marion Quinton Brewster, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, South Carolina 2016

Charlotte, N.C. – In a shocking display of brazen thievery, 38-year-old Marion Quinton Brewster, a convicted felon from Columbia, S.C., was sentenced to 180 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced Jill Westmoreland Rose, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

According to the investigation, on May 19, 2016, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to an armed robbery call at a self-service car wash in Charlotte. The victim reported being robbed at gunpoint by Brewster, who was later identified as the perpetrator.

CMPD officers conducted a traffic stop of a green Ford Expedition, where Brewster was riding as a passenger, based on information provided by the victim. As they approached the vehicle, Brewster fled on foot, leading to a short foot chase. During the chase, law enforcement observed Brewster drop a handgun, which was later recovered and identified as a stolen Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun.

Brewster was apprehended and charged with the firearm offense. At the time of the offense, he was a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. Brewster pleaded guilty to the firearm offense in January 2017 and was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Brewster’s prior convictions in South Carolina for armed robbery and carjacking made him an armed career criminal. He will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility and will serve his sentence without the possibility of parole.

U.S. Attorney Rose commended the ATF and CMPD for leading the investigation, which led to the successful prosecution of Brewster. Assistant United States Attorney Robert Gleason prosecuted the case, bringing justice to the victims of Brewster’s crimes.

Brewster’s sentence serves as a reminder that those who engage in violent crime will be held accountable for their actions. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators like Brewster to justice and keep our communities safe.
