Jalaal Claitt, a 20-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, has been sentenced to 13.5 years in prison for his role in two brazen armed carjackings in Philadelphia and Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. On September 17, 2024, Claitt and his accomplices carjacked a black Chevy Malibu in West Philadelphia, making off with the vehicle, an iPhone 14, and $500 in cash. Just weeks later, on October 1, 2024, Claitt and his cohorts struck again, this time targeting a pizza delivery driver in Upper Darby, stealing the driver’s wallet, phone, car keys, and cash.
The carjackings were marked by violence and intimidation, with Claitt and his accomplices wielding handguns to get what they wanted. Claitt pleaded guilty to two counts of carjacking and one count of carrying, using, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
Claitt’s sentencing, which includes 162 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and $7,400 in restitution, brings closure to the victims of his crimes. The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Claitt’s co-defendants, Kristian Jackson and Legend Hall, both 20 and from Philadelphia, were also implicated in the carjackings. Jackson pleaded guilty to the West Philadelphia carjacking and was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison.
