In a brazen act of violence, Khala Hardy and her co-conspirator Nyeem Williamson carjacked a female driver at gunpoint in South Philadelphia on March 15, 2024. The duo targeted the victim as she dropped off a friend, with Hardy approaching the driver’s side and demanding the keys. Hardy then took the wheel, with Williamson joining her, and the two made their escape. The motive behind the carjacking is not clear, but the outcome is: Hardy has been sentenced to 85 months in prison for her role in the crime.
According to court filings, Hardy and Williamson worked together to disable the Toyota’s GPS system and cameras to avoid detection by law enforcement. They even discussed their plans in group chat messages, which would later be used as evidence against them. The carjacking was just the beginning, as Hardy instructed others to delete their text messages after Williamson’s arrest by the Philadelphia Police Department three days later.
Hardy’s subsequent voluntary statement to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) sealed her fate. She admitted to her involvement in the gunpoint carjacking, and on July 2024, she pleaded guilty to the charges. Williamson also pleaded guilty, in March 2025, and is scheduled to be sentenced in August. The case was investigated by the PPD and ATF, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Samantha A. Arena.
The sentence handed down to Hardy serves as a reminder of the severity of carjacking crimes. With a sentence of 85 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, Hardy will have ample time to reflect on her actions. As for Williamson, his sentencing is still pending, but it’s likely he’ll face similar consequences for his role in the crime.
