Luigi Esposito, a 60-year-old Italian national, was caught in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 2026, after sneaking back into the United States. Esposito had been previously removed from the country in 2019, but he didn’t get permission to return, which is a federal crime. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Removal Operations investigated the case, which is part of a nationwide effort to stop illegal immigration and protect communities from violent crime.

Esposito was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of illegal reentry into the United States. The indictment alleges that he knowingly and intentionally reentered the country without getting the required permission. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scalera.

The maximum penalty for this offense is 10 years in prison, plus a term of supervised release and a fine.
