Carjacking Spree Ends with 3 Sentenced
A brazen carjacking and armed robbery spree that terrorized Miami residents in 2014 has finally come to an end. Three men, Tywan McGee, 24, Alan Agnew, 22, and Jamal McMillan, 19, have been sentenced for their roles in the six-count conspiracy.
According to investigators, between August 10, 2014 and September 7, 2014, one or more of the defendants participated in six different armed robberies and carjackings in the Little River area of Miami. The victims included unsuspecting taxi cab drivers, a fast food delivery driver, and individuals who were targeted after being contacted over Facebook.
The group’s reign of terror was marked by violence and intimidation. Agnew previously pled guilty to two armed robberies, three carjackings, and the use of a firearm during a crime of violence. McGee previously pled guilty to two armed robberies and one carjacking, as well as the use of a firearm during a crime of violence. McMillan previously pled guilty to one armed robbery, one attempted carjacking, and the use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams handed down the sentences, with McGee receiving 15 years in prison, Agnew getting 25 years, and McMillan facing 9 years behind bars. The sentences are a testament to the brazen nature of the crimes committed by the trio.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, commended the agencies for their tireless efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Olivia S. Choe and Benjamin Widlanski. Related court documents and information can be found on the website of the District Court for the Southern District of Florida at www.flsd.uscourts.gov or on pacer.flsd.uscourts.gov.
