Carl Anthony, Child Pornography, New York 2022

In a shocking case of child exploitation, Carl Anthony, 69, of Niagara Falls, NY, has been sentenced to serve nine years in prison and 10 years supervised release for possession of child pornography and conversion of government property.

U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo handed down the sentence in a Buffalo, NY courtroom. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Buffalo Office, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia; the U.S. Marshals Service, under the direction of Marshal Charles Salina; and the Town of Niagara Police Department, under the direction of Chief H. James Suitor.

The charges against Anthony stem from a disturbing incident in December 2018 and January 2019, when he secretly video-recorded a 12-year-old girl changing and showering in a bathroom. The videos were found on a hard drive seized during a federal search warrant executed at Anthony’s Niagara Falls residence in July 2019.

Anthony was arrested and charged by criminal complaint in December 2019, but was released on conditions, including participating in a home detention program monitored by GPS. However, in April 2020, Anthony fled after cutting off his ankle monitor and leaving it in a mailbox. He was subsequently arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in San Diego, California, on April 14, 2020.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, under the direction of U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross, handled the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly prosecuted the case.

The sentencing marks a significant victory in the fight against child exploitation. The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of child pornography on its victims and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.

Anthony’s sentence is a result of the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring him to justice.
