MS-13 Member Pleads Guilty to Violent Racketeering in Maryland
Baltimore, Maryland – Carlos Alas Brizuela, a 29-year-old MS-13 gang member, pleaded guilty to a federal racketeering charge related to his participation in a violent conspiracy that included two murders, two attempted murders, and a kidnapping.
Brizuela, also known as “Truco” and “Stewie,” was a member and associate of the Fulton Locotes Salvatrucha clique of MS-13, which operates in Frederick County, Anne Arundel County, Prince George’s County, and Montgomery County, Maryland.
According to court documents, MS-13 members were expected to protect the gang’s name, reputation, and status from rival gang members and other persons. To maintain membership and discipline within the gang, MS-13 members were required to commit acts of violence against rival gang members.
“MS-13 is ravaging communities throughout Maryland with senseless acts of violence,” said U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur. “This defendant participated in a horrifying series of violent crimes and now faces about 30 years in federal prison.”
Working with state and local partners, the FBI and its partners will continue to aggressively pursue MS-13 gang members, making communities safer for citizens.
Brizuela’s guilty plea is a significant blow to the MS-13 gang, which has mottos consistent with its rules, beliefs, expectations, and reputation including “mata, viola, controla,” which translates as, “kill, rape, control,” and “ver, oir y callar,” which means, “see nothing, hear nothing, and say nothing.”
The case against Brizuela was announced by U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur; Special Agent in Charge Jennifer C. Boone of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office; Special Agent in Charge John Eisert of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore Office; and other law enforcement officials.
Brizuela faces approximately 30 years in federal prison for his participation in the violent racketeering conspiracy.
