Two Mexican Nationals Convicted of Illegal Re-Entry in Texas

LAREDO, Texas — A 30-year-old Mexican national has been handed a lengthy sentence following his conviction of illegal re-entry after deportation or removal.

Carlos Aragon-Carrillo was sentenced to 98 months in federal prison, with 77 months for the current offense and an additional 21 months for violating his supervised release.

The U.S. Border Patrol discovered Aragon-Carrillo in Laredo on March 8, 2014, and determined he was a Mexican national and illegally present in the United States.

Aragon-Carrillo has a long and extensive criminal history, including four separate felony convictions involving firearms and fleeing from law enforcement.

He had been deported to Mexico in 2011 following his release from prison for a prior illegal re-entry conviction.

A separate case involving another Mexican national, Juan Garcia-Rodriguez, also resulted in a lengthy sentence.

Garcia-Rodriguez, 49, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for illegal re-entry after deportation or removal.

He had prior felony convictions for second-degree murder, assault, and assault on a peace officer and had been deported just five days prior to being found by law enforcement in the U.S.

U.S. District Judge Janis Graham Jack handed down the sentences in two separate cases.

The cases were investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Border Patrol, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sonah Lee and Christopher A. dos Santos prosecuting the cases.

Following completion of their prison terms, both Aragon-Carrillo and Garcia-Rodriguez will once again face deportation proceedings.
