A 21-year-old Arizona man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for his role in a massive cocaine trafficking operation in Nebraska.

Courts in Omaha, Nebraska, handed down the sentence to Carlos Daniel Ruelas on October 2, 2024, after he was found guilty of possessing cocaine with intent to distribute. According to court records, Ruelas agreed to forfeit $68,460 in connection with the crime.

The investigation into Ruelas and his associates began on July 31, 2023, when agents from the DEA Criminal Interdiction Unit made contact with Xavier Olivas-Valenzuela at a bus station in Omaha. During the contact, Olivas-Valenzuela admitted to having contraband in his bag and attempted to flee the scene.

After a short pursuit, investigators detained Olivas-Valenzuela and searched his luggage, finding 51 pounds of methamphetamine. A search of his phone revealed that he had been directed to stay at a residence in the 1700 block of N. 10th Street, where agents found Ruelas, along with 10 kilograms of cocaine and $68,460.

Ruelas was arrested and charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute. He was sentenced to 46 months in prison, with no parole in the federal system. Following his release, he will begin a 5-year term of supervised release.

Carlos Daniel Ruelas, 21, of Arizona, was identified as the defendant in the case. The charges against him were possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. The city and state where the crime took place was Omaha, Nebraska. Ruelas was sentenced on October 2, 2024.
