Omaha Woman Sentenced for Theft of Government Property and Mail Fraud

LaTosha Bolton, age 48, of Omaha, Nebraska, has been found guilty of theft of government property and mail fraud. A jury had previously found her guilty in October 2014. Bolton was sentenced by the Honorable Laurie Smith Camp to one year, three months imprisonment.

According to the investigation, from 1993 until 2013, Bolton was receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits on behalf of one of her children. While it was clear the child did have a disability, the jury found that Bolton did not use the money for the benefit of her child as required by law.

LaTosha Bolton received $124,960.00 of government SSI funds and most of that money was sent through the United States mail. She was ordered to pay the Social Security Administration $124,960.90 and will serve a three-year term of supervised release after she completes her incarceration.

The case was investigated by the Office of Inspector General, Social Security.
