Terra Alta Man Faces Decades in Prison for Methamphetamine Conspiracy.
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – David Ray Deberry, a 34-year-old Terra Alta man, has pleaded guilty to participating in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution ring, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard.
Deberry, who is prohibited from owning a firearm due to a prior conviction, admitted to working with others to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine in Harrison County and elsewhere from February 2017 to June 2018.
Additionally, Deberry admitted to possessing a .45 caliber pistol in January 2018 in Marion County, which is a serious offense given his prior felony conviction.
The charges against Deberry carry significant penalties, including a minimum of five years and a maximum of 40 years in prison, as well as fines of up to $5,000,000 for the conspiracy charge and up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the firearms charge.
The actual sentence imposed will be determined by the federal sentencing guidelines, which take into account the seriousness of the offenses and Deberry’s prior criminal history.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the Greater Harrison Drug Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives providing crucial investigative work.
Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley will preside over the case, which has far-reaching implications for the community and highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and violence in West Virginia.
