In a shocking turn of events, authorities in Pennsylvania have arrested Carlos Zavala Zamora, a 40-year-old El Salvador man, for possessing fraudulent immigration documents.
According to reports, Zamora was arrested in Bloomsburg, PA, by agents of the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement section of the Department of Homeland Security in September 2021.
The indictment alleges that Zamora was found in possession of a counterfeit Permanent Resident Card and counterfeit Social Security card.
The case was investigated by the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement section of the Department of Homeland Security. Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey W. MacArthur is prosecuting the case.
It is worth noting that indictments are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The maximum penalty under federal law for this count is five years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
For these reasons, the statutory maximum penalty for the offense is not an accurate indicator of the potential sentence for a specific defendant.
