Carrollton, TX — In a gritty federal court ruling, 19-year-old Julio Gonzales Jr., known as ‘J-Money,’ was handed a 15-year sentence for supplying deadly fentanyl to teens in Carrollton, Texas.

Gonzales pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and the tragic consequences of his actions have left four children dead. U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton emphasized the need for community education on the dangers of fentanyl.

The DEA Dallas Special Agent in Charge Eduardo A. Chávez vowed that the agency would continue its efforts to bring traffickers to justice, noting, ‘One Pill Can Kill.’

According to evidence presented at the hearing, Gonzales was one of three primary suppliers for Luis Eduardo Navarrete, who supplied fentanyl to students at three schools. Navarrete and another supplier have already been sentenced.

At his arrest in July 2023, agents found a trove of drugs, firearms, and drug proceeds in Gonzales’s Dallas home. He admitted trafficking approximately 120,000 pills over the course of the conspiracy.

The investigation was conducted by the DEA Dallas Field Office and the Carrollton Police Department, with assistance from School Resource Officers. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rick Calvert and Phelesa Guy are prosecuting this harrowing case.
