Carson Man Sentenced to 17 ½ Years in Federal Prison for Methamphetamine Dealing
A Carson man, 37-year-old Charles John Barrett, has been sentenced to 210 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Brad Byerley, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Barrett, who sold methamphetamine to an individual in Hattiesburg on multiple occasions between January and November of 2020, was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 20, 2020. He pled guilty on March 23, 2021 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The case is the result of an extensive investigation, dubbed “Bulldog,” which began as an operation targeting illegal methamphetamine distribution in south Mississippi. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Keesha D. Middleton prosecuted the case, which has resulted in Barrett’s lengthy prison sentence. The sentence is a significant blow to those involved in methamphetamine dealing in the region.
The “Bulldog” investigation is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in south Mississippi to combatting the scourge of methamphetamine. The sentence handed down to Barrett serves as a warning to others involved in similar activities.
In a statement, Acting U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca said, “The sentence imposed on Mr. Barrett is a direct result of the tireless efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in this case. We will continue to work tirelessly to combat the distribution of methamphetamine in our communities.”
Brad Byerley, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, added, “This sentence is a victory for the people of south Mississippi. We will continue to work to dismantle the networks of those involved in methamphetamine dealing and bring them to justice.”
