Baltimore, Maryland – The grimy streets of Baltimore were again the scene of justice as Jermol McCoy, a 37-year-old Catonsville resident, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl. The plea hearing marked a stark turn in the saga of drug distribution that has plagued the city.
According to authorities, McCoy was not only on supervised release for a previous federal drug conviction but also plotted the distribution of deadly substances while under close observation. His arrest came after an intense investigation by the DEA, ATF, and local law enforcement agencies.
The evidence against McCoy was chilling. Law enforcement intercepted his communications, revealing detailed plans to distribute drugs and strategies to elude authorities. The fentanyl found in his apartment, along with drug paraphernalia and a loaded firearm, painted a disturbing picture of a dealer who posed a significant threat to public safety.
On November 21, 2019, a search warrant was executed at McCoy’s residence, leading to the recovery of substantial quantities of fentanyl and crack cocaine. His plot to harm Baltimore residents had reached critical mass before law enforcement intervened.
The plea agreement between McCoy and the government stipulates that he will serve 10 years in federal prison if the Court accepts it. Sentencing is scheduled for December 15, 2020. U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett will preside over the hearing.
United States Attorney Robert K. Hur praised the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies, noting their dedication to protecting the citizens of Baltimore. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joan C. Mathias and Michael C. Hanlon have been instrumental in this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case.
