CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Antonio Clarence Robertson, 33, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 48 months for dealing fentanyl. The sentence, handed down June 30, 2025, by Chief Judge C.J. Williams of the United States District Court, reflects the severity of Robertson’s crimes and the ongoing federal crackdown on fentanyl distribution.
The case began December 21, 2023, when Cedar Rapids Police Department officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle carrying Robertson. Officers observed him attempting to conceal an object under his person. When ordered to exit the vehicle, Robertson refused, forcing officers to physically remove him. A search of the immediate area revealed an unlabeled pill bottle containing fentanyl pills where Robertson had been seated.
The search didn’t stop there. Officers also discovered multiple plastic bags containing additional fentanyl pills on Robertson’s person. In total, the traffic stop yielded a staggering 227 pills containing the deadly opioid. Evidence presented at the plea and sentencing hearings also revealed that officers had previously observed Robertson allegedly selling narcotics to another individual prior to the traffic stop.
Robertson didn’t attempt to deny his involvement. On December 22, 2023, he met with investigators and confessed to selling fentanyl to another person. He pleaded guilty on January 16, 2025, to the charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. The plea avoided a trial, but did not lessen the consequences for flooding the streets with a substance responsible for countless overdoses.
Following sentencing, Robertson was taken into custody by the United States Marshal’s Service and will be transported to a federal prison. He will serve his 48-month sentence without the possibility of parole, a standard practice in the federal system. Upon release, Robertson will be subject to a three-year term of supervised release.
