Florida Man Sentenced to 5+ Years in Prison for Methamphetamine Possession

Gulfport, MS – In a significant blow to the local drug trade, a Florida man has been sentenced to 62 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Jermicha Fomby of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Mississippi.

Ross Alger Medlin, 30, was sentenced in U.S. District Court today after having previously pled guilty to the offense. Medlin’s guilty plea marked a significant turning point in the case, which began on February 24, 2021, when law enforcement officers stopped a vehicle driven by Vincente Aguirre in Jackson County, Mississippi.

The vehicle was stopped for following too closely, and a subsequent search led to the discovery of over 400 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Aguirre and Medlin were taken into custody, and the FBI’s investigation revealed that the pair had traveled to Texas from Florida to obtain the methamphetamine and were returning to Florida at the time of the traffic stop.

The suspected methamphetamine was sent to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Lab for analysis, and the results confirmed that the substance was indeed methamphetamine. This revelation only served to underscore the severity of the crime and the need for stiffer penalties for those involved in the illicit drug trade.

Medlin’s sentence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to disrupting and dismantling the networks that facilitate the flow of illicit substances into our communities. The FBI and Ocean Springs Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Buckner prosecuted the case.

Meanwhile, Vincent Aguirre, the driver of the vehicle, was sentenced on February 4, 2022, to 107 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
