A local man is facing serious time behind bars after admitting to distributing a potent synthetic opioid in Harrison County, West Virginia. Chad William Mullooly, 40, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to the charge of distributing p-Fluorofentanyl, a synthetic opioid that’s been linked to a growing number of overdose deaths across the country.
Mullooly’s guilty plea came after court documents revealed that he had sold fentanyl and p-Fluorofentanyl on multiple occasions in Harrison County. The Greater Harrison Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, led the investigation into Mullooly’s activities.
The task force’s efforts were led by Assistant U.S. Attorney William Rhee, who will now be responsible for prosecuting Mullooly in federal district court. U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the proceedings.
Mullooly’s admission to the crime comes with serious consequences. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison, a sentence that will be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing opioid crisis plaguing communities across West Virginia. p-Fluorofentanyl, a synthetic opioid that’s often laced into other substances, has been linked to a growing number of overdose deaths nationwide.
The Greater Harrison Drug Task Force’s investigation into Mullooly’s activities is a testament to their commitment to combating the opioid crisis in Harrison County. Their efforts will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the community and serve as a warning to those who would seek to profit from the suffering of others.
