Chaniqua Boyd, a resident of Fort Knox, Kentucky, is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting her partner, Army Sgt. First Class V.G., with a deadly weapon.
According to a criminal complaint filed on May 10, 2020, Boyd was detained by Fort Knox Military Police after responding to a call at her residence. V.G. was transported to Louisville for treatment of a stab wound to the upper chest, which resulted in a punctured lung.
Boyd’s statement to authorities claimed she did not intend to stab V.G., but the severity of the injury suggests otherwise. If convicted, the maximum sentence for assault with a dangerous weapon with the intent to do bodily harm is 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to 3 years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman emphasized the importance of law enforcement vigilance during the pandemic, stating, ‘Law enforcement must be especially vigilant during this pandemic of the risk of domestic violence and we will be especially aggressive in responding when it occurs.’
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mac Shannon and U.S. Army Captain James D. Taylor, Special Assistant United States Attorney. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Division (CID) conducted the investigation with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Boyd’s case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the need for law enforcement to take a proactive approach in responding to such crimes.
As this case moves forward, the community can expect to see a strong prosecution and a relentless pursuit of justice for the victim.
