PITTSBURGH – A Westmoreland County woman has been brought to justice for her role in a brazen scheme to defraud Victoria’s Secret.
Charlene D. Moff, 60, of New Derry, PA, was sentenced in federal court on her conviction of mail fraud, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today.
United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Moff. She received a sentence of two years probation and was ordered to pay approximately $30,169.56 in restitution.
According to information presented to the court, from September 2013 to March 2016, Moff fraudulently ordered merchandise from Victoria’s Secret using her or her husband’s online account. After the items were delivered, she would call customer service and falsely represent one of the following: that she did not receive the shipment of merchandise, the shipment was missing certain items, or some of the merchandise was incorrect or damaged. She would then receive a credit to her account or a re-shipment of merchandise.
Moff’s scheme was uncovered through a thorough investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
United States Attorney Brady commended the United States Postal Inspection Service for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Moff.
The case serves as a reminder that the consequences of mail fraud can be severe. Moff’s actions resulted in financial loss for Victoria’s Secret, and her sentence reflects the seriousness of her crimes.
